Dental Sealants

Child getting a dental implant at Puget Sound Pediatric dentistryAt Puget Sound Pediatrics, we can help decrease the incidence of your child developing tooth decay and protect their teeth with dental sealants.
Our teeth are shaped with grooves and depressions to allow for the chewing of food. Often children miss brushing away food and debris that gets stuck in those dips, leading to decay and the increase of bacteria. When the bacteria reacts with food, the acids that form will break down the hard outer layer of tooth enamel, causing cavities. We can help protect your child's teeth from cavities.

What are dental sealants?

Tooth sealants is a resin material that is safe for your child and will protect these more susceptible areas on your child's teeth by sealing the grooves and depressions from debris, preventing bacteria and food particles from resting in these areas. Our dentists, Dr. Lugo, Dr. Kramer, Dr. Sadler, Dr. Farmer or Dr. Pederson use a small brush to paint the liquid sealant material directly onto the surface of the child's teeth, which will then dry hard. This is a painless procedure that should last for several years.

We have seen a significant decrease in cavities and canaries in our patients with this product. In fact, increasingly, children are reaching adulthood without ever having a cavity. This is a product that we love and so will you.
